Improving GP access for disabled people - update

We're working on a project to improve access to GPs for certain groups of disabled people.
Man with Downs Syndrome

What's the project about?

We are working on a project to make GP practices more accessible to certain groups of disabled people. This project focuses on engaging people with mental and physical health conditions that make it difficult for them to communicate or to understand information about their health and care. We will listen to people who are:

  • neurodiverse
  • who have neurological conditions
  • who have a hearing or sight loss
  • who have a learning disability.

We are working on this project together with the other South West London Healthwatch organisations – Healthwatch Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, and Wandsworth).

We want to work with community organisations ...

We are currently reaching out to voluntary sector organisations with service users in South West London to help us speak to patients and their carers. If you would like to work with us, please contact Iyinoluwa Oshinowo, South West London Engagement Coordinator, at iyinoluwa@swlhealthwatch.org.uk.

... and with people in patient-facing roles at GP practices

We are also seeking to connect with those in patient-facing roles at GP practices who are interested in helping surgeries better meet people’s communication and information needs. Please subscribe to our project mailing list to find out ways to become involved in this project.

This project is generously funded through the South West London Integrated Care Board Priorities Fund.
