We have been supporting a number of Sutton’s practices to develop their patient involvement. As part of this we are keen to promote membership of PPGs, support practices to recruit new members and let patients know about how they can be involved with the great work being undertaken by PPGs in Sutton.
Patient Participation Groups are open to patients registered with a practice and carers of registered patients of the practice. All communities, groups, genders, ages, ethnicities, and disabilities representing the patient list are encouraged to get involved.
Dr Phil Hammond, physician, comedian and commentator on health issues in the UK said:
“Patients and carers are the smoke alarms for the frontline of the NHS. They are often first to spot poor care and also have great ideas about how to make care better. They need to be involved in decisions not just about their care, but in designing better care for others.
Patient Participation Groups are a crucial way of harnessing the voice of the patient in primary care, and have much to contribute in driving up quality”
Have you thought about volunteering for your practice PPG?
Being part of a patient group is not a huge commitment, most meet for 1-2 hours bi-monthly and all offer the opportunity for patients to have a voice and work actively, with the practice, to make positive contributions to the services and facilities offered to patients.
Maybe you have the passions or skills that they are looking for? Most practices are looking to recruit to their active groups and we know that the following practices are currently recruiting new members;
- Grove Road Practice
- Faccini House Surgery
- Manor Practice
