Outpatient Care Project

Sutton residents told us they were not happy with the waiting times at the Outpatient Department in St Helier Hospital.  Residents also said that they weren’t satisfied with the amount of information they received prior to an appointment and also the amount of time they had with their consultant.     

In 2015 Healthwatch Sutton volunteers visited different Outpatients Departments within St Helier Hospital and spoke with over 300 patients about their experience of the hospitals Outpatient Departments.

Healthwatch Sutton found that;

  • 1 in 5 patients said that the hospital had changed their appointment to a later date.

  • Over 50% of the patients said that they had to wait more than 15 minutes beyond their appointment time to be seen.

  • Over 50% of the patients said that they had not been informed about the delay to their appointment time.

  • Nearly 60% of patients said they waited longer than they were told they would have to.

  • Over 80% of patients found it easy to change their appointment.
